About DINK
Hi! I’m Lucy!
I’m a writer and magazine editor with more years of experience than I’d care to admit, and I love to travel.
Throughout my career, I’ve often wanted to create a travel magazine but never quite found the headspace, especially after starting my own marketing consultancy in Norwich.
In 2024, everything changed.
As an avid reader of travel magazines for years, I realised none of them truly spoke to me as a traveller.
The travel magazines I bought were either too aspirational, with hotels charging four figures a night, or too backpacker-focused and a little too casual for my tastes.
I wanted something between those extremes. Offering experiences off the beaten track but with the comfort of knowing I’d have somewhere nice to stay.
Affordable luxury, if you will. I like to have four walls and hot water.
My husband and I work hard, earn well, and don’t want to waste our precious five weeks of annual leave on trips that don’t provide the experiences and inspiration we seek.
How we like to travel
We prefer to travel deep, not wide. After attempting to visit five cities in two weeks across Rajasthan, we learned our lesson.
We’d been too ambitious, trying to do too much, and ended up needing a holiday to recover from the holiday. Now, we tend to stay in just two places per trip, getting to know them well rather than rushing around.
Don’t get me wrong, we’re not ones to lounge by the pool all day.
We enjoy some relaxation, but life is exhausting, so rest is important. I call it ‘active rest’ (yes, I made that up). Immersing ourselves in the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of a place, which helps me stay present. As a business owner, that’s hard to achieve if I’m just sat by the pool. I’m not travelling for Instagram; I’m travelling to explore and unwind.
So, that’s a bit about why I started DINK.
Here’s a bit more…
DINK's mission
DINK is for people like me.
- It’s for people who don’t have children and don’t have much time but want to visit new places and experience new cultures.
- It’s for people who are hungry to book their next trip and want to be inspired to try somewhere new.
- It’s for people who want to stay in nice places and eat nice food but don’t earn a hedge fund manager’s salary.
- And it’s for people who want to be spontaneous and adventurous but still know they have a room booked in high-quality accommodation.
That about sums it up.
Welcome to DINK!
